Esther: Tell us briefly about the organizers of the SMMN, Tradersball

Daniel Malik: TRADERSBALL is an online brand communications agency based in Lagos, Nigeria. We have worked with businesses large and small from around the world and discovered that when it comes to online marketing, the same common mistakes are being made by companies time and time again.

Working with Tradersball means you will:

  • Unlock your true business potential, grow your online brand and increase sales by avoiding common online marketing mistakes
  • Tap in to a pool of creative talent to make your online marketing more exciting and above all, far more effective
  • Save time by working with one company that has the experience you need in print, web, digital and social media
  • Save money with discounts of up to 30 percent on Africa's best wholesale online pricing
  • Manage and grow your business with online marketing software, brand strategy and marketing workshops

Esther: What is the intention of the organizer? What impact does Tradersball hope this conference will make in the Nigerian business environment.

Daniel Malik: We’ve had seven seasons of training this year where big organizations like Bank of Agriculture, Chi Limited and likes attended.  With our research we discovered that so many brands still lack the real knowledge of what social media marketing or online marketing really is. Our aim for this event is to make sure participants go back to their offices on Monday, ready to transform their social media platforms for the good of their various organizations.

Esther: Do you think Nigerian businesses are fully using social media for the development of their businesses? Yes, many are on social media platforms and there’s so much buzz. But are we really taking advantage of the benefits that social media bring us?

Daniel Malik: Like I said earlier, businesses lack the real knowledge of what social media marketing is, sure almost every brand is online but are they really online? As a brand you need to know where your target market resides online.  Everyone wants to be on Facebook but will Facebook work for every brand?  Some brands should be on Linkedin and make use of Slideshare but instead they have built a hut for themselves called a Facebook page. Do not get me wrong, having a facebook page is awesome but I am only saying that identifying the right social media network is very important.  This shows you some mistakes that are made by Nigerian businesses.  Nigerians really want to use social media but some basic knowledge are missing and that’s why we are putting together this event.

Esther: Also, do you think social media is for every brand/business? How can a brand/business determine if it should be on social media?

Daniel Malik: I am not surprised when I see people advertising email lists or things like “I can increase your Facebook followers by 10,000 likes…” and sure they will but you can only increase by fans and not followers.  You need followers to engage with you. People keep making this mistake.  Engagement, brand storytelling, and graphics can really generate followers for you. Instead of you just paying people to get you likes, employ agencies to create strategies for you. We do that at Tradersball.
